The ISHBH publishes the Bibliotheca Herpetologica. It contains articles, essays, bibliographies and news of people and events in our field and is a peer-reviewed journal published with one volume per year. The many important contributions make the publication a vital source for bibliographers, historians and taxonomists alike but at the same time the papers are by and large appealing to the layperson in the field.
The name of the journal, up to volume 5(1), was International Society for the History and Bibliography of Herpetology Newsletter and Bulletin.
All volumes of the ISHBH Newsletter and Bulletin and Bibliotheca Herpetologica are available for download as pdf files. Beginning with volume 14, ISHBH adopted an open access publication model. Articles in Bibliotheca Herpetologica are available online as soon as they receive final editorial approval. At the end of the year a hard copy version of Bibliotheca Herpetologica, containing all articles published that year, will be printed and distributed to current members.
Beginning 2022, ISHBH began publishing Wahlgreniana — A series of book-length works complementing the ISHBH journal, Bibliotheca Herpetologica. Books in this series are published on an irregular basis and are sold separately from ISHBH subscriptions. Wahlgreniana is named in honor of Richard Wahlgren (1946–2019) A founding member and first Chairman of the International Society for the History and Bibliography of Herpetology. Without Richard’s tireless dedication to ISHBH, the society could not have made it through its early years.

Citations. When the first issue was published in May 1999 the journal was titled International Society for the History and Bibliography of Herpetology Newsletter and Bulletin. The new name Bibliotheca Herpetologica was applied from vol. 5(2) published in April 2005. We regard therefore Bibliotheca Herpetologica as a continuation of the ISHBH Newsletter and Bulletin, with sequential numbering. Thus we suggest the following formats for citations:
Korsós, Z. 2005. In memoriam Dr. Olivér György Dely (1927–2003). Bibliotheca Herpetologica 5(2):7–9.
Bauer, A.M. & R.E. Petit 2004. On the Herpetology of Perry's Arcana and Two Forgotten Reptile Names. International Society for the History and Bibliography of Herpetology Newsletter and Bulletin 5(1):9–17.
